The colder reception of the two most recent films in the franchise,The NunandThe Curse of La Llorona, may not bode well for Annabelle Comes Home. According to Forbes, if the newest film in the franchise,Annabelle Comes Home, reaches just $64 million worldwide after its release,The Conjuringwill surpassThe Matrixtrilogy as the most profitable R-rated film franchise in all of cinematic history. While babysitting the daughter of Ed and Lorraine Warren, a teenager and her friend unknowingly awaken an evil spirit trapped in a doll.
Eventually, Mary Ellen and Judy find the doll when the ghostly priest, acting as Judy's guardian, guides them to the Ferryman. They manage to retrieve the glass case's key after they are attacked by demonic hands from the Feeley Meeley board game, and a possessed Daniela, but struggle to secure the case as the demon of the doll physically attacks them. Daniela recovers when Judy plays Ed's recorded footage of the Bride's exorcism, and helps put the doll back in the case. After the case is locked, the disturbances cease as the spirits return to their slumber, and Bob reunites with the trio. You may be thinking to yourself, “Why is Danny Boyle directing a jukebox musical rom-com? ” It’s a fair question, considering the director’s previous output, but when you’ve had the kind of career he’s enjoyed, you’re entitled to branch out a bit.

Annabelle Comes Home, based on the early indication from Rotten Tomatoes, may not be at the top of the food chain with this franchise, but it's apparently not half bad! That said, as far as third entries in a horror spin-off franchise go, this doesn't seem to be a bad bet for those who are looking for a little bit of spooky business at the movies this weekend. Pictures announced that a then-untitled film in the Conjuring Universe franchise would be released on July 3, 2019. Later that month, it was announced that the film would be another installment in theAnnabelleseries, with Dauberman signed on to write and direct the film in his directorial debut, based on a story treatment written by Dauberman and Wan. Principal photography commenced by mid-October and officially wrapped in December 2018 inLos Angeles. Annabelle is a terrifying antagonist onscreen — and the true story behind the real-life Annabelle doll is just as horrifying.
She accidentally leaves Annabelle's glass case unlocked after hearing a knock that makes her think that her father is attempting to communicate. The terror begins shortly afterward with a knock at the front, but there's no one there. That night, Annabelle begins releasing other spirits, such as the Ferryman, the Bride, cursed samurai armor, a Feeley Meeley board game, and a hellhound.

Critics say Annabelle Comes Home isn’t likely to be considered one of the franchise’s more frightening entries, but it’s a fairly fun romp with some old fashioned scares and a few callbacks for those who have been following along with the series. Determined to prevent Annabelle from creating even more chaos, demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren bring the possessed doll into the artifact room that is locked in their home, isolated in a "safe" place, protected by a sacred glass and with the blessing of a priest. But what awaits them is a night of horror, as Annabelle awakens the evil spirits in the room, who turn their attention to a new target--the Warrens' 10-year-old daughter, Judy, and her friends. Gary Dauberman, who has penned several entries in the franchise previously, makes his directorial debut here. The horror flick will be competing against another evil doll in the form of Chucky in the Child's Play remake at the box office. But things are looking good for Annabelle Comes Home, as it's expected to bring in $30 million or more by the end of the weekend.

With that in mind, we should expect to hear about further entries in the series sooner rather than later beyond The Conjuring 3, which is currently filming. In the trailer for Annabelle Comes Home, Judy mentions that, while she hasn't told her parents, she can "see things" just like her mother Lorraine. This implies that a prominent plot point in Annabelle Comes Home will revolve around Judy's apparent ability to communicate with the evil spirits, and may also explain why she is regarded as the primary target for their supernatural hijinks. In both of the mainConjuring films, Lorraine Warren has demonstrated an ability to see and communicate with ghosts and demons.

Now the third of that specific series,Annabelle Comes Home, is itself garnering a mixture of responses. Some think its variety of monsters make for a fun outing, while others see the concept as too gimmicky and not scary enough for this brand of horror movie.
The Warrens are famous for a multitude of paranormal cases, including the Amityville haunting, which spawned a franchise of horror films.The Conjuring is inspired by another of the Warren's cases that took place at a Rhode Island farmhouse in the '70s. The museum is home to a variety of occult and supposedly haunted artifacts, including the real Annabelle doll. In 1971, demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren bring the possessed Annabelle doll to their home after claims from two nurses, Debbie and Camilla, that the doll often performed violent activities in their apartment. The doll summons spirits to attack Ed as they drive to their home but he survives and Annabelle is placed in a sacred glass case in the couple's artifacts room and blessed by Father Gordon to ensure her evil is contained.

Annabelle Comes Home was theatrically released in the United States on June 26, 2019, by Warner Bros. It was originally scheduled for release on July 3, 2019, but was later moved up to June 28, and then to June 26. Annabelle Comes Home was released on Digital HD on September 17, 2019, and on Blu-ray and DVD on October 8, 2019.
